Abstract
The invention concerns spirobifluorene compounds having the following structure: <img class="EMIRef" id="1a80cd79-a041-438c-8c97-925aa69126ca-ia01" /> wherein R<1> and R<3> are both ring structures containing one or more aromatic or heteroaromatic rings, R<1> and R<3> not both being phenyl at the same time, and the -R<1>-(R<2>)<n> and -R<3>-(R<2>)<n> structures are selected from the group consisting of: (1) phenyl, (2) biphenyl, (3) naphthyl, (4) triphenylamine; (5) dibenzofuran joined through its ring position 2 to a N atom of compound I; (6) triphenylamine vinyl; (7) dibenzofuran joined through its ring position 1 to a N atom of compound I; (8) napthalene-benzofuran; (9) 4-pyridinyl-phenyl; (10) 2,2-bithienyl; (11) spirofluorenoxanthene; and (12) fused thienyl, wherein each R<2> substituent where present is methoxy. The spirobifluorene compounds are organic hole transporting materials (HTMs) useful to increase power conversion efficiency (PCE) of perovskite solar cells (PSCs).
