Abstract

Herein described is a method for chlorination of a substrate compound containing an arene moiety with 3 to 20 carbon atoms, wherein the substrate compound is reacted with an organic chlorine-donor in the presence of a catalyst, an oxidising agent, and a solvent. Also described is the use of a chlorine-containing solid or liquid organic compound, in particular a chlorinated organic waste compound, as chlorine-donor for the chlorination of a substrate compound containing an arene moiety with 3 to 20 carbon atoms.
