Abstract

A linear drive (300) for moving a functional unit (302) of a microscope (1400) comprises a first moveable member (102) that is rotatable about an axis of rotation (O) and fixed with respect to linear movement along the axis of rotation (O), and a second moveable member (104) that is connected to the functional unit (302), fixed against rotation about the axis of rotation (O) and moveable along the axis of rotation (O). The linear drive (300) further comprises a spacing member (110a) engaged with the first moveable member (102) at a first point (112a) and the second moveable member (104) at a second point (114a), and configured to maintain a constant spacing between the first point (112a) of the first moveable member (102) and the second point (114a) of the second moveable member (104).
