Abstract

A printing assembly (20) for an additive manufacturing apparatus (10) includes an energy emitter (109) configured to steer one or more emissions (111) across a build platform (14) to raise a temperature of a build material (48) on the build platform (14) from an initial temperature to a first temperature, the first temperature being less than a threshold temperature set by material dependent metallurgical properties, and a fusing beam emitter (108) configured to generate one or more laser beams (106) to raise the temperature of the build material (48) on the build platform (14) from the first temperature to a second temperature, the second temperature being greater than the threshold temperature.
