Abstract

A drive recorder (100) with a license plate recognition function and a method for license plate recognition are provided. The drive recorder (100) includes a multi-lens camera module (205) configured to capture motion images covering multiple viewpoints. One or more positions of license plates (405') can be obtained according to features of the license plate (405'), so that one or more regions of interest of the license plates (405') in each of frames of the motion images can be determined. Different exposure compensation weights are designated to multiple zones based on a size and the position of each of the license plates (405'). Each of the frames of the motion images can then be processed by different levels of exposure compensation according to the exposure compensation weights designated to the multiple zones. Afterwards, license plate recognition is performed on exposure-compensated images of the license plates.
