Abstract

According to one embodiment, a method for providing a communication service by a communication network is described comprising receiving a message indicating that it would be acceptable for a user device that desired characteristics of a provision of a communication service to the user device are not met if by this energy consumption of the provision of the communication service can be reduced, determining, in response to receiving the message, for each of a plurality of options for providing the communication service to the user device, respective energy consumption information about energy consumption of the communication network to provide the communication service to the user device, notifying the user device of the communication service about the energy consumption information for each of the plurality of options, receiving, from the user device, a request for providing the communication service according to one of the plurality of options and providing the communication service according to the one of the plurality of options.
