Abstract
An example apparatus (100), method, and system for determining a characteristic of a target gas in a fluid sample is provided. In some embodiments, the example apparatus (100) includes a frequency comb illumination source (102) configured to emit pulsed light (108) having a plurality of frequency comb wavelengths. The apparatus also includes an optical cavity (110) containing a fluid sample and exhibiting a plurality of cavity resonance modes. A frequency comb wavelength of the plurality of frequency comb wavelengths associated with the frequency comb illumination source (102) is configured to align with a cavity resonance mode of the plurality of cavity resonance modes. A characteristic of the fluid sample is determined based on one or more optical characteristics of a transmitted light passing through the fluid sample within the optical cavity (104).
