Abstract

The present invention relates to a biaxially oriented polyethylene film comprising a polyethylene composition comprising at least 50 wt.-% of an ethylene copolymer (A), based on the total weight of the polyethylene film, wherein the ethylene copolymer (A) has a density, determined according to ISO 1183, in the range of from 910 to 940 kg/m³, a melt flow rate MFR₂, determined according to ISO 1133 at 190 °C and at a loading of 2.16 kg in the range of from 0.5 to 3.0 g/10min, a molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn, as determined according to GPC measurements, in the range of from 3.5 to 6.5, and a comonomer content, determined by quantitative nuclear-magnetic resonance (¹³C NMR) spectroscopy, in the range of from 1 to 20 wt.-%. The invention further relates to the use of the biaxially oriented film in packaging applications. The above biaxially oriented polyethylene film has excellent stiffness, impact properties and transparency as well as processability.
