Abstract

Method and application unit for applying a sound-absorbing material (2) to a cavity of a pneumatic tyre (1) using a strip (4) of sound-absorbing material provided on one side with an adhesive layer (6) covered with a protective lining (7), the method comprising the steps of: cutting the strip (4) of sound-absorbing material and leaving intact the protective lining, separating an excess end (5) from the remaining part of the strip of sound-absorbing material (2), eliminating the excess end (5) such as to confer a required length to the same strip of sound-absorbing material and leaving intact a residual portion (9) of the protective lining, progressively separating the protective lining from the strip of sound-absorbing material, step-by-step, as the strip of sound-absorbing material is applied to the cavity of the tyre, wherein a heated instrument (19) for cutting the strip of sound-absorbing material is used.
