Abstract

A hammer drill (10) comprises a tool housing (16) having a motor (50) in a motor housing portion (14), an output spindle (200) driven by the motor, and a clutch housing (300) formed at least partly from a plastic material. A hammering mechanism of the drill comprises a first ratchet (110) rotationally fixed relative to the clutch housing and a second ratchet (120) rotationally fixed relative to the output spindle. The clutch housing contains a metal insert (500, 700) which comprises a body (510, 710) disposed around the spindle and a plurality of legs (520, 720) extending from the body. The insert is configured to mitigate or prevent deformation of the clutch housing due to heat generated by the hammering mechanism during use.
