Abstract

A tissue retraction and neuro monitoring system includes one or more dilators each having a conductive element, wherein the conductive element is capable of neuro monitoring. At least one of the dilators includes a tip configured to penetrate patient anatomy and a surface configured to promote penetration of the one or more dilators into muscle tissue while preventing penetration of the one or more dilators into spinal disc tissue. The system also includes a first blade and a second blade, each having a respective blade shaft. The system also includes a third blade having a posterior blade shaft with a slot on a lateral side thereof, the posterior blade shaft being configured to house a discal shim in a cavity thereof, wherein the discal shim is pre-loaded within the cavity of the third blade.
