Abstract

A device (100) for controlling trapped ions includes a carrier (2) including a mounting surface (4). The device further includes a substrate (6) including a top surface (8), a bottom surface (10) and at least one opening (12) extending through the substrate from the top surface to the bottom surface, wherein the bottom surface of the substrate is arranged on the mounting surface of the carrier. The device further includes a structured electrode layer (14) arranged on the top surface of the substrate, wherein the structured electrode layer forms a plurality of electrodes (16) of an ion trap configured to trap ions in a zone above the structured electrode layer. The device further includes a plurality of electrical coupling elements (18) extending through the at least one opening of the substrate, wherein the electrical coupling elements electrically couple the electrodes of the ion trap with a plurality of first electrical contacts (20) arranged on the mounting surface of the carrier.
