Abstract
Disclosed is an LED converter (1). The converter (1) comprises a boost converter topology, including a tapped inductance (101, L<mag>, N<1>, N<2>), a first capacitance (102, C<sw>) and a first rectifying component (103, D<0>), arranged in series between an input potential (V<in>) and an output potential (V<out>) of the converter (1). The converter (1) further comprises a resonant inductance (104, L<R>) and a switch (105, S), arranged in series between a tap of the tapped inductance (101, L<mag>, N<1>, N<2>) and a ground potential of the converter (1). The converter (1) further comprises a resonant capacitance (106, C<R>, C<oss>), arranged in parallel to the switch (105, S), and a second rectifying component (107, D<sw>), arranged in series between the tap of the tapped inductance (101, L<mag>, N<1>, N<2>) and a common potential of the first capacitance (102, C<sw>) and the first rectifying component (103, D<0>). The converter (1) further comprises a control circuit (110). The control circuit (110) is configured to regulate an input current (I<in>) of the converter (1) in accordance with an input voltage (V<in>) of the converter (1), a duty cycle signal (D) for the switch (105, S) and winding turns (N<1>, N<2>) of the tapped inductance (101, L<mag>, N<1>, N<2>). The control circuit (110) is further configured to generate the duty cycle signal (D) for the switch (105, S) in accordance with a control error (e = I<in,ref> - I<in,meas>) of the input current (I<in>) of the converter (1) and a valley switching in a boundary conduction mode, BCM, operation. This yields a boost in efficiency at high switching frequencies.
