Abstract

A robotic vehicle (502) for use in an automated storage and retrieval system. The robotic vehicle (502) comprises a body (300), a lifting device (508) and a gripping device (504). The lifting device (508) is arranged to lower the gripping device (504) from the body (300) and raise the gripping device towards the body. The gripping device (504) is arranged to engage and disengage a container (112) to raise and lower the container with the gripping device when so engaged. The lifting device (508) comprises an engagement device for releasably engaging the gripping device (504) to raise and lower the gripping device when so engaged. The gripping device (504) comprises an electrical energy storage device arranged to at least partly power the robotic vehicle (502).
