Abstract

The invention relates to a method (7) for detecting a failure of a rectifier (2) of an electrical generator (1). In the method, a frequency tolerance band (FTB) is calculated based on one of the phase voltages (UPhA) and a dominant frequency (F_0) is calculated based on a rectified summed output voltage (B+). If the dominant frequency (F_0) is not within the frequency tolerance band (FTB), the rectifier (2) is failed.The invention also relates to the electric generator (1), especially to an alternator of a vehicle, with a rectifier (2).
