Abstract

A method of investigating a motor comprises: obtaining (S100) name plate data of the motor, the name plate data comprising a nominal name plate efficiency (η_{NP_nom}) of the motor or the nominal name plate efficiency (η_{NP_nom}) of the motor being derivable from the name plate data, identifying (S102) the motor type based on the name plate data, checking (S104) if there exists measured efficiency data for the motor type, setting (S106), if measured efficiency data exists for the motor type, the measured efficiency data as investigating data for the motor, determining (S108) simulated efficiency data using a model (CM) of the motor and setting (S110) the simulated efficiency data as investigating data for the motor, if the measured efficiency data does not exist for the motor, where the nominal name plate efficiency (η_{NP_nom}) is considered in the use of the model, and investigating (S112; S220) the motor using the investigating data.
