Abstract
An optical amplifier includes: a substrate; a first optical waveguide formed over the substrate; a semiconductor carbon nanotube layer covering a predetermined region of the first optical waveguide; and an excitation structure configured to excite the semiconductor carbon nanotube layer. Signal light is amplified by an excited state of electrons in the semiconductor carbon nanotube layer and stimulated emission resulting from incidence of the signal light into the predetermined region.
