Abstract

An equalization optimizer analyzes (S401) successive samples of at least one channel-related parameter Pc so as to determine contribution values of time-reference classes representative of timescales of impact of channel impairments on response of an optical channel. The equalization optimizer determines (S402) a value of at least one equalization-related parameter Pe according to the contribution values of the predetermined time-reference classes and configures (S403) equalization-related operations in accordance. The equalization optimizer reviews (S404) the contribution value of each time-reference class at a rate of the timescale corresponding to the time-reference class in question, and updates (S406) accordingly the at least one equalization-related parameter Pe so that a part thereof which depends on the time-reference class in question is only updated, and the equalization optimizer reconfigures (S407) the equalization-related operations in accordance.
