Abstract

An electrical connector having - a mate assist system comprising a user-operable element (20) which slides, along an operating direction (OD), between an open position and a closed position, - at least one first section (25) extending parallel to the operating direction (OD), - at least one first rotatable cam member (30) comprising a cam slot (31) for receiving a mounting pin (10) protruding from a counter-connector (2). When the user-operable element (20) is actuated from its open position towards its closed position, each rotatable cam member (30) engages a respective rack section (25). The electrical connector has a housing (11) from which exit cables (50). The operating direction (OD) is perpendicular to the exit direction. Possibly, at least one cam member is provided with a locking leg (35).
