Abstract

A system and method of controlling operation of a fuel cell vehicle comprising a fuel cell system comprising a fuel cell stack. The method comprises obtaining route data of a route for the vehicle that comprises at least one section of the route wherein switching from a hot operating mode to a normal operating mode can be performed; when a state of health (SoH) of the fuel cell stack is within a target SoH and the vehicle assumes the hot operating mode, controlling the vehicle to either assume the normal operating mode or remain operating in the hot operating mode during the section of the route, based on an expected degradation of the fuel cell stack due to switching between the hot and normal operating modes and an expected degradation of the fuel cell stack due to the vehicle remaining operating in the hot operating mode when passing the section of the route.
