Abstract
The present invention relates to process for fractionating polymeric material, comprising the steps of: providing a solution of polymeric material with a molecular weight distribution, having an average molecular weight, in a solvent or a solvent mixture, charging the solution into a filter unit of a fractionation system, wherein the filter unit comprises a filter bed, inducing a phase separation in the solution within the filter unit to form a dispersion, wherein the polymeric material is separated into a separated fraction and a non-separated fraction, wherein the polymeric material in the separated fraction differs from the polymeric material in the non-separated fraction with regard to the molecular weight distribution and/or the average molecular weight of the molecular weight distribution, and applying a force to the dispersion, causing it to pass through the filter bed from a first side to a second side, capturing the separated fraction, in particular a molecular weight fraction, in the filter bed.
