Abstract
A microfluidic device for purification of nucleic acids comprising: at least one microfluidic channel, said channel having a first surface, a second surface opposite the first surface, and connecting surfaces joining the first and second surfaces; a plurality of fixed structures within said channel, said structures being attached to at least one of the first surface or second surface of the channel, collectively occupying at least 95% of the distance between the connecting surfaces, and each structure extending across at least 95% of the distance between the surface to which it is attached and the opposite surface; at least one inlet for introducing a fluid containing nucleic acids or molecular assemblies comprising nucleic acids into the channel; and at least one outlet for collecting purified nucleic acids; wherein said fixed structures comprise a surface capable of reversibly binding either nucleic acids or molecular assemblies comprising nucleic acids.
