Abstract

A towed vehicle detection apparatus for a towing vehicle includes a hose coupling for a hose for supplying pressurized air from the towing vehicle to brakes of the towed vehicle, a sensor configured to detect a physical position of the hose coupling relative to the towing vehicle, and a computer system configured to detect whether the towed vehicle is attached to the towing vehicle based on a signal from the sensor regarding the physical position of the hose coupling. A towing vehicle with a towed vehicle detection apparatus and a method for detecting whether a towed vehicle is attached to a towing vehicle are also provided.
