Abstract

A partial folding and folding apparatus for paper documents such as card carriers allows the easy formation of folds in a carrier in any orientation, possibly making the carrier to be advanced back and forth, and the release of carriers in a flat configuration to make simpler the formation of partial folds and the subsequent carrier processing of the carrier, and it comprises: an inlet section (603) receiving a carrier (500); a triplet of parallel pinch rollers symmetrically placed and staggered to substantially form an isosceles triangle pattern; a tilting chute (105) apt to selectively guide the carrier (500) to any of inlet nips formed at the interface of the pinch rollers of the triplet; an extraction chute (460) positioned downstream said triplet, apt to receive the running front edge of the carrier (500) and determining a carrier path; and a stop device (430) positioned along said carrier path at a determined distance from said triplet, apt to selectively block said running front edge of the carrier (500) to cause a buckle (810) in the carrier (500), said buckle (810) being accordingly oriented towards a folding nip formed at the interface of the triplet, so as to be ingested into said folding nip thereby create a fold or a partial fold.
