Abstract

A positive electrode active material, and a positive electrode and a rechargeable lithium battery including the positive electrode active material are disclosed. The positive electrode active material includes a lithium cobalt-based oxide including zirconium and yttrium, wherein a content of zirconium, wherein a content of zirconium is in a range of about 0.1 wt% to about 10 wt% based on 100 wt% of a total metal excluding lithium in the lithium cobalt-based oxide, and a content of yttrium is in a range of about 0.5 wt% to about 15 wt% based on 100 wt% of a total metal excluding lithium in the lithium cobalt-based oxide.
