Abstract

Provided are a sheet recognition unit, a sheet handling device, a sheet recognition method, and a sheet recognition program capable of recognizing a sheet with high accuracy based on a fluorescence emission amount of fluorescent ink printed on the sheet. The sheet recognition unit includes: a light source capable of emitting at least first light and excitation light to a sheet including a printed portion to be recognized and a non-printed portion; a light receiving unit that receives reflective light obtained by reflecting the first light from the sheet to output a reflective light detection signal, and receives fluorescence emitted from the sheet irradiated with the excitation light to output a fluorescence detection signal; a calculation unit that calculates a value P obtained by multiplying an output value of a fluorescence detection signal of the non-printed portion by a density ratio α between a reflective light detection signal of the printed portion and a reflective light detection signal of the non-printed portion, and calculates a value F obtained by subtracting the value P from an output value of a fluorescence detection signal of the printed portion; and a recognition unit that recognizes the sheet based on the value F calculated by the calculation unit.
