Abstract
A cash handling apparatus (1) has the following units. A banknote storage unit stores banknotes. A logical storage amount increase and decrease calculation unit (103) calculates a first increase or decrease on the basis of information on entrance and exit of banknotes to and from the banknote storage unit. A physical storage amount increase and decrease calculation unit (102) calculates a second increase or decrease on the basis of physical quantity that varies according to the number of banknotes stored in the banknote storage unit. A detection unit (104) detects possibility of banknote loss on the basis of the first increase or decrease calculated by the logical storage amount increase and decrease calculation unit (103) and the second increase or decrease calculated by the physical storage amount increase and decrease calculation unit (102).
