Abstract

A spectrometer (110) and a method for skin-layer specific spectroscopy are disclosed. The spectrometer (110) comprises - at least one illumination source (112) configured for illuminating a sample (114) of a subject with at least one illumination light (116) beam having at least one wavelength in an optical spectral range, wherein the illumination source (112) is configured for transmitting the illumination light beam (116) to the sample (114) along a direction of propagation (120); - at least one detector (124) sensitive to light in the optical spectral range, wherein the detector (124) is configured for detecting light impinging on the detector (124) under at least one direction of collection (126); wherein the illumination source (112) and the detector (124) are separated by a baseline (130), wherein the direction of collection (126) and the direction of propagation (120) of the illumination light beam (116) form an angle of inclination α with α ≠ 0.
