Abstract

The present invention relates to a plain bearing for use in a rotary machine, such as pump or turbine, and particularly to a plain bearing for use in cryogenic environment. The plain bearing includes a sliding contact pad (1) having a shaft support surface (1a) for supporting an outer circumferential surface of a rotational shaft (100), a shell (2) disposed radially outward of the sliding contact pad (1), and a pad-pressing mechanism (3)that presses the sliding contact pad (1) against a pad support surface (2a) of the shell (2) when the sliding contact pad (1) contracts.
