Abstract

A method for forming a microfluidic device for culturing cells, the method comprising: providing a microfluidic device comprising a first chamber and a second chamber fluidically connected to the first chamber by a first porous structure comprising through holes for allowing fluid to pass through, said first porous structure physically separating the first chamber and the second chamber, wherein each of said chambers has photosensitive inner walls having a first property; and then irradiating the microfluidic device with light to which the photosensitive inner walls are sensitive, in such a way that the first porous structure acts as a mask during irradiation, thereby changing the surface property of the exposed surfaces and imparting a different surface property in the first chamber compared to the second chamber.
