Abstract

A sheet conveying device includes a pickup roller (24), a conveying member (25), a separation roller (26), and a lowering processing portion (56). The pickup roller (24) rotates in a first direction (D1) capable of conveying a sheet lifted by a lift portion (22) in a conveying direction (D10). The conveying member (25) rotates in a second direction (D2) capable of conveying the sheet conveyed by the pickup roller (24) in the conveying direction (D10). The separation roller (26) forms, together with the conveying member (25), a sheet feed nip portion (26A) therebetween, and rotates in a fourth direction (D4) opposite to a third direction (D3) capable of conveying the sheet in the conveying direction (D10). The lowering processing portion (56) lowers the lift portion (22) after the leading edge in the conveying direction (D10) of the sheet has passed through the sheet feed nip portion (26A).
