Abstract
A pretreatment liquid is used for pretreating a medium on which an image is recorded using a water-based ink. The pretreatment liquid contains core-shell particles having a 2-ethylhexyl acrylate as a core and a benzyl methacrylate as a shell, polyester microparticles, a water-soluble organic solvent, and water. A mass ratio of the core-shell particles to the polyester microparticles is 0.3 or more and 3.0 or less.
