Abstract
A system for capture of atmospheric CO<sub>2</sub> includes a reaction reactor having a solid sorbent; and a mineralization reactor downstream from the reaction reactor, the system having three states including in the reaction reactor, a first state of sequestering CO<sub>2</sub> from air into the solid sorbent; in the reaction reactor, a second state of releasing the sequestered CO<sub>2</sub> from the sorbent by contacting the CO<sub>2</sub>-enriched sorbent with an exchange fluid having one or more amino acids and forming a CO<sub>2</sub>-enriched exchange fluid; and in the mineralization reactor, a third state of reacting the sequestered CO<sub>2</sub> from the CO<sub>2</sub>-enriched exchange fluid with an alkaline feedstock to form a carbonate while regenerating the exchange fluid.
