Abstract

The present invention relates to computer-implemented methods and systems for characterising the microstructural composition of a blood vessel and the pathological features therein, utilising magnetic resonance quantitative susceptibility mapping and machine learning or Al models. Methods and systems providing explainable quantitative rupture risk assessment of plaques and aneurysm in target blood vessels, particularly carotid arteries, are disclosed. An advantage of the invention is to provide explainable plaque and aneurysm rupture, risk scores based on a single measurement sequence, resulting in a cost, time, and resource efficient risk assessment.
