Abstract

A laser processing head (10) for a laser processing machine, such as a laser cutting machine, for example a flatbed laser cutting machine, or for a laser welding machine, is provided. The laser processing head (10) is equipped to emit laser radiation towards a workpiece (12) supported by a workpiece support and to move relative to the workpiece support. For the laser radiation, the laser processing head comprises an input port (51) for receiving the laser radiation from a laser source and an output port for emitting the laser radiation towards the workpiece. The laser beam path from the input port to the output port leads through a space (53) filled by a gas. The laser processing head is equipped to cause a periodic density modulation of a density of the gas in the space through which the beam path leads, so as to deflect a portion (42) of the laser beam by acousto-optic modulation.
