Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a mobile robot (100) configured to transport a payload transport vehicle (200) or the like, carrying, at least at some times, a payload (300), the mobile robot (100) comprising a payload transport vehicle engagement element (150), a load or force sensor (130) functionally connected (135) to the payload transport vehicle engagement element (150), a control element (110), and at least one active wheel or other active robot driving element (140) configured to the move the mobile robot (100) on a surface (175), wherein the payload transport vehicle engagement element (150) is configured to engage with and apply a controllable force (F<x>) to the payload transport vehicle (200) in response to a control signal (125), to be transported or being transported by the mobile robot (100), whereby the mobile robot (100) receives at least a part of a load of the payload transport vehicle (200) via the payload transport vehicle engagement element (150), where the received load of the payload transport vehicle (200) is proportional to the applied force (F<x>), at least a part of the received load of the payload transport vehicle (200) is distributed to at least one of the at least one active wheel or other active robot driving element (140), the load or force sensor (130) is configured to determine or estimate a current load or force applied on or to the payload transport vehicle engagement element (150) by the load of the payload transport vehicle (200) and to provide a sensor signal (135) in response thereto, and the control element (110) is configured to receive the sensor signal (135) and to provide the control signal (125) in response to or as a function of the received sensor signal (135).
