Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a system (100) for converting biomass to methanol and methods of performing the same. The system (100) comprises a gasification reactor (102), air-separation unit (112), electrolysis unit (114), water-gas shift reactor (124) and methanol synthesis reactor (116). Preferably, the system (100) comprises a bypass conduit (136) for diverting a portion of syngas produced by the gasification reactor (102) so that it does not pass through the water-gas shift reactor (124).
