Abstract

A self-piercing rivet (10) for joining at least an upper member (Mu) and a lower member (MI) by punching the self-piercing rivet (10) into the at least two members, the self-piercing rivet (10) having a head (12) and a shank (14) axially extending from the head (12), wherein the shank (14) has an upper end (16) adjacent to the head (12) and a lower end (18) distant from the head (12), wherein the shank (16) has a central cavity (20) for receiving at least a part of the at least two members (Mu, MI), and wherein a thread portion (22) which is formed by at least one groove (24), is provided on at least a part of the shank (16) between the upper end (16) and the lower end (18).
