Abstract

An image forming apparatus (1) includes a separation device (15) and a plurality of developing devices (22A to 22D) including a developing device (22D) for monochrome image and a developing device (22A to 22C) for color image. The separation device (15) is configured to switch a state of the image forming apparatus (1) to any one state of: an insertable/removable state where all of the plurality of developing devices (22A to 22D) are arranged at the separation position (P2); a normal printing state where all of the plurality of developing devices (22A to 22D) are arranged at the developing position (P1); and a monochrome printing state where the developing device (22D) for monochrome image is arranged at the developing position (P1) and the developing device (22A to 22C) for color image is arranged at the separation position (P2).
