Abstract
An optical communication system includes: a first optical multiplexing/demultiplexing unit that splits and outputs uplink control signal light and main signal light transmitted at different wavelengths from one or more newly connected subscriber devices; a subscriber device management control unit that transmits downlink control signal light to the one or more newly connected subscriber devices in response to the split uplink control signal light; an optical distribution unit that includes a plurality of first ports and a plurality of second ports, receives, via any one of the plurality of first ports, input of the main signal light transmitted from the one or more newly connected subscriber devices in response to the downlink control signal light and then split, and outputs the main signal light from any one of the plurality of second ports; a detection unit that detects the main signal light input to the first port; and an optical distribution control unit that controls connection between the ports of the optical distribution unit so as to connect the first port at which the main signal light has been detected and any one of the plurality of second ports to which a subscriber device serving as a communication counterpart of the one or more newly connected subscriber devices is connected.
