Abstract

A method of adding a neural beat having a beat frequency to digital audio comprises: receiving a digital audio file encoding music over a network or from a digital storage device; determining pitch characteristics of the digital audio file at a plurality of timestamps; selecting a time-varying carrier frequency for the neural beat based on the pitch characteristics at the plurality of timestamps; creating a modified version of the digital audio file configured to produce the neural beat having the beat frequency at the time-varying carrier frequency combined with the music when the digital audio file is played; and storing on the digital storage device or transmitting over the network the modified version of the digital audio file.
