Abstract

Provided are a method and device of performing time synchronization. Delays and offsets are calculated through a messaging process in which a coordinator transmits a Sync message to one or more followers, the followers transmit Delay_Req messages to the coordinator in response to the Sync message, and the coordinator receiving the Delay_Req messages transmits a Delay_Resp message to the followers, and time synchronization is performed on the basis of the delays and offsets. Even when a plurality of followers are connected, the number of times PTP messages are transmitted is reduced by broadcasting the Sync message and/or the Delay_Resp message of the coordinator at once. Also, a transmission bandwidth occupied by PTP messages is reduced by performing PTP messaging using symbols that have significantly shorter lengths than existing PTP messages.
