Abstract
Provided is a screening method by which a microorganism that has a desired activity can be selected with high throughput. A screening method for searching for a microorganism (12) that has a desired activity includes: a particle forming step of obtaining a multilayer particle (10) by forming, outside a core particle (11) formed from a solid culture medium containing the microorganism (12), at least one detection layer (13) that is composed of a gel or an aqueous solution and that contains a detection body (14) which detects the desired activity; and a selection step of selecting the multilayer particle (10) on the basis of a signal indicating a result of detection of the desired activity by the detection body (14), in a case where the detection layer (13) is formed as a layer that is composed of the aqueous solution, the layer being formed as an outermost layer of the multilayer particle (10) in a hydrophobic solvent (20).
