Abstract

The present invention provides an instrument-adapter assembly (200; 300) for an end-effector system, comprising a surgical instrument (202; 302) including: a grip portion (204; 304), a tip portion (206; 306), and a predefined workpoint (W), and a surgical instrument adapter (208; 308), configured to hold and operate the surgical instrument (202; 302), comprising: a first movable arm (210; 310); a second movable arm (212; 312), and a base portion (214), the first movable arm (210; 310) and the second movable arm (212; 312) being hingedly connected through said base portion (214). The surgical instrument (202; 302) comprises a first coupling and alignment means (216; 316), formed on an external surface of the surgical instrument (202; 302). The surgical instrument adapter (208; 308) comprises a second coupling and alignment means (218; 318), configured for engagement with said first coupling and alignment means (216; 316), the second coupling and alignment means (218; 318) being formed on an internal surface of the first movable arm (210; 310) and/or the second movable arm (212; 312) of the surgical instrument adapter (208; 308).
