Abstract
An optical scanning device includes a polygon mirror, a mirror cover, and a position sensing portion. The polygon mirror rotates about a rotation axis extending along the top-bottom direction to reflect laser light and scans the circumferential surface of an image carrying member along a main scanning direction. The mirror cover covers the polygon mirror. The position sensing portion senses the rotation position of the polygon mirror. The mirror cover has an opening part. The opening part penetrates, along the radial direction, part of a circumferential wall part covering the polygon mirror from radially outward. The position sensing portion is disposed on the mirror cover with at least part of it disposed in the opening part.
