Abstract

Provided are a platelet alumina powder having a lower level of spotty shine (undesirable sparkle) than conventional platelet alumina powder even when it has a particle size equal to that of the conventional one; and a method for producing such a platelet alumina powder. The platelet alumina powder includes platelet α-alumina particles having an average particle size of 2 µm or more and 100 µm or less and an average thickness of 0.2 µm or more and 3.0 µm or less as measured by SEM observation. The platelet α-alumina particles are polycrystalline. They each have a plate surface with an outer perimeter L1 and a total grain boundary length L2 and have an average L2/L1 ratio of 0.30 or more and 2.00 or less.
