Abstract

A barrier for preventing or delaying thermal propagation between battery pack subassemblies (10) and/or for accommodating volume changes of battery pack subassemblies, the barrier comprising: a spacer arrangement (24) arranged between the first and second barrier plates (20,22) in a thickness direction and comprising (i) a first plurality of deformable spacer portions (P1) which are configured to extend between opposing surfaces (21, 23) and provide a first deformation characteristic when the opposing surfaces (21, 23) are moved towards each other, and (ii) a second plurality of deformable spacer portions (P2) which are configured to extend between the opposing surfaces (21, 23) and provide a second deformation characteristic when the opposing surfaces (21, 23) are moved towards each other, wherein the second deformation characteristic is different from the first deformation characteristic.
