Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for encoding an image (110) comprising image samples (111), the method for encoding comprising processing with an encoding module (130) respective lines (112) of image samples (111) for producing intermediate results and final results according to a lifting scheme (300) of a wavelet-type filter operation applied in a vertical direction, so as to reduce the amount of memory needed for encoding the image (110). The present invention also relates to an apparatus and a computer program for encoding the image (110), and to a method, apparatus and computer program for decoding an encoded image (210) obtainable by the method for encoding into a decoded image (250), wherein the decoding may be performed with a reduced amount of memory.
