Abstract

A system and method for verifying the authenticity of video content is described. The system comprises a transmitter device including video capture functionality configured to capture video data of a scene and an artificial lighting device arranged to illuminate at least a portion of the scene during at least part of the capture by the video capture functionality. It also comprises an authentication platform configured to control the artificial lighting device to introduce controlled, variable lighting changes into the scene according to predetermined instructions, to receive the captured video data from the video capture functionality, and to analyze the captured video data to detect artifacts resulting from the controlled lighting changes. It further compares the detected artifacts with expected artifacts based on the predetermined instructions to determine the authenticity of the video content.
