Abstract
Method for rearing Hermetia larvae on sustainable plant by-products (e.g., cocoa bean shells and/or apple pomace and/or depectinized apple pomace and/or potato peelings) to produce Hermetia larvae with a defined and consistent fat and protein content, producing meals from the larvae, using a single meal type or a targeted combination of meal types to produce pelleted feeds that meet the exact species- and life stage-specific fat and protein requirements of aquaculture species, thereby meeting 50-100% of the protein and fat requirements and replacing 75-100% of the amount of unsustainable fishmeal in pelleted aquaculture feeds by meal(s) of Hermetia larvae reared on these plant by-products.
